Curtiss' first brand refashioned: the Baby Ruth

Otto Schnering founded the Curtiss Candy Company in 1916 near Chicago, Illinois. His German last name was not a good asset at the time (during World War I), so he used his mother's maiden name for the company instead.

Their first product was Kandy Kake, later to be re-branded as the log-shaped Baby Ruth. The second was a chocolate-covered, peanut butter crunch bar called Butterfinger. This is still a famous brand today. Starting 1964, the company changed owners several times, finally to be sold to Nestlé in 1990.
