Toblerone Chocolate is a Swiss chocolate bar. Toblerone is famous for its distinctive prism shape.
Toblerone was first created by Theodor Tobler (1876–1941) in 1908 in Bern, Switzerland. Tobler, with his cousin Emil Baumann, developed a unique mix of milk chocolate which included nougat, almonds and honey in a unique triangular shape.
It is believed that the inspiration behind the Toblerone triangular shape might be the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps.
Tobler applied for patent for the Toblerone manufacturing process in Bern, and it has been valid since 1909.
The Tobler company was independent for many years, but in 1970, it merged with Suchard, the makers of Milka. Since 1990, the Tobler company has been part of Mondelez (Kraft Foods at the time of acquisition).
